Ça débute ce soir avec le très attendu THE DARJEELING LIMITED du réalisateur Wes ANDERSON (Bottle Rocket, The Rotal Tennenbaums, Rushmore et The Life aquatic with Steve Zissou) mettant en vedette Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody et Jason Schwartzman.
Belle initiatve d'Anderson et Fox Searchlight de tourner un court métrage en guise de préface au long métrage, c'est HOTEL CHEVALIER avec Jason Schwartzman et Nathalie Portman, dans ce court métrage de très fort calibre, brillammant réalisé par Anderson et qui donne le ton parfait pour apprécier le long métrage. Du côté long, Montréal et le Festival du Nouveau Cinéma n'a rien à envier à New York, la plupart des films seront présentés à la mi-octobre à Montréal. Côté court c'est une autre histoire: Le très attendu nouveau film d' Edouard Salier, "Orishas: Hay un Son" (ceux qui ont vu FLESH et EMPIRE le savent) sera présenté en première mondiale. Également au programme: Saturday's Shadow de Nick Gordon, Death to the Tinman de Ray Tintori, l'Hallucinant The Boxing Lesson de Alexandru Mavrodineanu, The Vulnerable Ones de Bent-Jorgen Perlmutt, Cherries de tom Harper, Franz Kafka's A Country Doctor de Koji Yamamura et plusieurs autres.
C'est dans la section AVANT-GARDE que le NYFF clanche relativement tout c'est compétiteur avec des programmes de courts/expérimental/vidéoclips/etc… à couper le souffle!
